The wedding ceremony will take place in the Catholic Cathedral in Reykjavík (apparently there are two Catholic churches in Reykjavík, but if you ask for directions to the Catholic church, this is where people will point you).  It is located near the centre of town on a small hill (see map below) and is known as both Kristskirkja and Landakotskirkja.

The Ceremony

Accommodation

There’s no dress code but you will find that most people will dress nicely.  That usually means suits for men and dresses of various lengths for the women.  If you prefer wearing a tux or something more special then feel free to do so.  The dress can be an evening gown or a less formal one.  If you want to wear your old wedding dress we won’t stop you!

In case the weather is nice (like here), we hope to have some part of the party outdoors - so it might be clever to bring a shawl, a sweater or a light jacket.  If it is pouring rain or very cold we will stay indoors so there’s no need to bring a parka.

The Festivities

We are holding a barbecue reception in a lovely fjord near Reykjavík.  The party will be in a hall called Drengur (“Boy”) which is located in Hvalfjörður (see the google map).  We hope to have a fun and rather informal party - with less time sitting down at dinner and more time for mingling with our guests.  There will be both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food aplenty but please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.

At the end of the dinner, we plan to have a bar service where there will be beer and wine available at ÁTVR (the Icelandic state alcohol shop) prices.

Transportation

As the reception is around 45 minute drive away from Reykjavík it is somewhat outside the normal reach of taxis.  We therefore plan to offer bus rides - both from the church to the reception(directly following the ceremony) and from the reception to Reykjavík (probably with a couple of different departure times).

So that we can estimate how big and how many buses we need please let us know if you think you’ll be wanting to travel by bus.

Dress Code

We will be camping at Drengur.  There’s a large private campground next to the hall and we have full use of the facilities from Friday to Monday morning.  You could therefore camp or even bring a camper van, and we encourage you to do so.  If you don’t have your own gear, you can rent it (see below).

Remember that although June is summer in Iceland, you can never count on the weather.  It may be sunny and warm or it may freeze overnight!  So, bring warm clothes if you are camping.  It will be bright all night long and the campground is a stone’s throw away so that does make camping quite attractive :)

You can also choose to stay in Reykjavík for the night (we’ll arrange for buses for those of you who wish to drink and/or don’t have cars).

Alternatively, there is also a hotel not too far away

but you would need your own transport.

Finally there are some ‘farmstays’ available - but again you would need your own transport:
